Nigeria Condoles with Angola Over Passing of Former Vice-President Fernando Santos

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep condolences to the Republic of Angola over the death of former Vice-President Fernando Santos.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, conveyed the condolence on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement released by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, on Sunday.

Tuggar described Santos, fondly known as “Nando,” as a distinguished statesman, veteran of Angola’s liberation struggle, and a key figure in the country’s post-independence political development.

“His lifelong dedication to public service, holding roles as Vice-Minister, Minister, Prime Minister, Vice-President, and President of the National Assembly, was instrumental in shaping modern Angola and guiding the nation through pivotal moments,” Tuggar said.

The minister added that Nigeria shares in the grief of the Angolan people, noting that Santos was a pillar of stability in Angola and a respected voice across the African continent.

He extended heartfelt condolences to President João Lourenço, the family of the late statesman, and the people of Angola, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians, praying for eternal rest for Santos and comfort for all who mourn his passing.
