Nigeria committed to deep reforms despite economic hurdles — Tuggar

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, has reiterated Nigeria’s unwavering dedication to executing comprehensive reforms despite prevailing economic constraints.

Tuggar, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Amb. Dunoma Ahmed, made this known on Wednesday during a briefing with members of the diplomatic corps in Abuja.

He said the meeting aimed to provide an update on the reform path of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to him, while the nation continues to face complex security issues, its democratic strength, religious harmony, and socioeconomic recovery remain evident.

“Under this administration, the government is implementing deliberate measures to stabilise the economy, strengthen social programmes, and enhance national security,” he stated.

He noted that Nigeria’s reform agenda is already producing visible results, especially in efforts to improve governance and economic resilience.

The minister stressed that national security remains a central focus of the Tinubu administration, adding that a holistic strategy — involving military operations, intelligence, diplomacy, and community engagement — is being used to address insecurity.

Tuggar highlighted that Nigeria remains a model of religious and democratic coexistence, with its constitution upholding freedom of religion and prohibiting the adoption of any state religion.

He dismissed claims of religious persecution, describing them as baseless and inconsistent with Nigeria’s secular structure.

“The recent classification of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) is misguided and fails to recognise our constitutional order and longstanding record of protecting religious freedom,” he said.

He urged the international community to maintain mutual respect and collaboration to promote peace, development, and understanding.

“Nigeria continues to stand firm as a vibrant democracy committed to unity, tolerance, and the protection of its citizens,” Tuggar added.

He reaffirmed the government’s determination to strengthen international partnerships while seeking continued cooperation and support from global allies in advancing peace, stability, and economic progress.
