Nigeria, China Reaffirm Stronger Partnership at Joint Celebration

Nigeria and China on Sunday restated their commitment to deepening bilateral relations as both countries jointly marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary and China’s 76th National Day.

The Lagos event, which also coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival, drew together top government officials, diplomats, business leaders, cultural troupes, and students.

Chairman of the House Committee on Nigeria-China Relations, Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, commended China’s Consul General in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, for her efforts in strengthening ties between the two nations. He described her as a steadfast friend of Nigeria, noting her role in promoting scholarships, cultural exchanges, and business partnerships that continue to foster mutual understanding.

Yakubu also applauded Dr. Eric Ni, Chairman of the China Industrial and Commercial Enterprise Association, for advancing business cooperation that has created jobs, encouraged technology transfer, and supported community initiatives.

“Chinese companies operating in Nigeria have not only boosted infrastructure development but have also placed emphasis on local participation and sustainable growth,” he said.

He further called for expanded collaboration in renewable energy, digital innovation, healthcare, and agriculture, while encouraging China to provide more educational opportunities for students from both countries.

Representing the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Simon Omo-Ezomo highlighted that Nigeria’s cooperation with China aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He explained that the agenda focuses on industrialisation, economic diversification, and job creation—areas where both nations can build shared prosperity.

In his remarks, Dr. Ni encouraged members of the Chinese community in Nigeria to continue contributing positively to national development, describing the event as a symbol of the harmony and friendship between the two countries.

“This unique gathering reflects the unity between China and Nigeria—two nations with deep histories, promising futures, and a growing bond of friendship,” he said.

The celebration featured colourful cultural performances by the Hauxing Arts Troupe, Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, Overseas Chinese performers, and other groups, showcasing the rich cultural ties between both nations.
