NERC: DisCos Meter Over 187,000 New Electricity Customers in Two Months

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) installed more than 187,000 new meters nationwide between September and October 2024.

This was revealed in the Commission’s latest Metering Fact Sheet, released on its website in Abuja on Friday.

According to the report, 80,943 customers were metered in September, while 106,822 meters were installed in October — a notable month-on-month increase that pushed Nigeria’s national metering rate from 55.37 per cent to 56.07 per cent.

The number of active electricity customers, the report said, rose slightly from 12.03 million to 12.07 million within the same period. Total metered customers also increased from 6.66 million to 6.77 million.

NERC highlighted significant improvements by Aba Power, whose metering rate jumped from 69.49 per cent in September to 78.20 per cent in October.

Eko and Ikeja DisCos maintained their positions as the top performers, sustaining metering rates above 84 per cent. Abuja and Ibadan DisCos also recorded steady meter installations, contributing to the overall increase.

However, the Commission noted that several DisCos still fall below the 50 per cent metering threshold. These include Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano and Yola DisCos.
