Swift response by emergency teams in Lagos prevented what could have been a serious disaster following a truck accident at Daleko Bridge inward Isolo.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs, Olawale Afolabi.
According to the agency, the incident occurred on April 26 and involved a 40-foot container truck and a Toyota Camry with registration number BDJ-263SX.
Preliminary findings showed that the container became detached from the towing vehicle while climbing the bridge after a mechanical failure linked to a broken turntable mechanism.
The container subsequently toppled onto the Toyota Camry, leading to a temporary closure of the bridge to traffic.
LASEMA, however, confirmed that no fatalities or injuries were recorded, as all three occupants of the car escaped unharmed.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Army, quickly moved in to divert traffic and prevent further incidents.
Recovery efforts were carried out using heavy-duty cranes provided by LASEMA and a private operator.
By 1:48 a.m. on April 27, officials had succeeded in lifting the fallen container back into an upright position.
However, due to structural damage to the truck chassis, the container remained unstable and was being secured while its contents were transferred to another vehicle.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies.
He also advised truck operators and logistics companies to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles to reduce avoidable road incidents.
Motorists were urged to remain patient and use alternative routes while efforts continued to fully restore normal traffic flow on the bridge.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged residents to report emergencies through 767 or 112
