In a move to improve environmental hygiene, the Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has commenced the removal of refuse illegally dumped on road medians across the community.
The Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Mr Lukmon Agbaje, directed private sector waste operators (PSP), supported by refuse compactors, to clear the accumulated waste as part of efforts to address environmental pollution in the area.
Agbaje explained that the intervention aligned with his administration’s broader agenda on environmental sanitation, public health and urban renewal.
He said the clean-up exercise was designed to restore cleanliness and improve the visual appeal of the community, while also protecting residents from health hazards associated with improper waste disposal.
According to the chairman, the operation was already underway, and residents were encouraged to cooperate with authorities by embracing proper waste disposal practices.
Agbaje noted that measures had also been strengthened to ensure regular and timely evacuation of household refuse by waste managers.
He warned that indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads and public spaces would no longer be tolerated, stressing that offenders would be sanctioned in line with existing environmental laws.
The LCDA chairman assured residents that sustained waste collection and stricter enforcement would be maintained to keep Ayobo-Ipaja clean and safe.
