Lagos Bus Services Ltd. Records 60 Million Passenger Trips

Lagos, May 12, 2026 The Lagos State Government has announced that its public transport operator, Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL), has conveyed more than 60 million passengers between May 2019 and February 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and signed by the Director of Public Affairs in the ministry, Mrs Bolale Ogunlola.

Osiyemi stated that LBSL had significantly strengthened urban mobility by providing residents with safer, more reliable and cost-effective transport services across the state.

According to him, the agency now moves an average of over 42,000 passengers daily through about 1,000 bus trips, maintaining fares that remain lower than those charged by informal transport operators.

He added that the bus operator has the most extensive public bus coverage in the state, serving all five IBILE divisions as well as 13 local government areas, including Ibeju-Lekki, Ojo and Ikorodu.

The commissioner also noted that LBSL currently operates along 21 major corridors with more than 40 designated routes and maintains a fleet of about 300 buses.

He said these milestones reflect the efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to develop a more integrated, efficient and affordable transportation system under the THEMES Plus development agenda.

Osiyemi further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding transport infrastructure and improving connectivity across road, rail and water networks in the state.
