Wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Nafisa Nasir-Idris, has distributed Ramadan palliatives to no fewer than 1,000 women in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.
The initiative, tagged the “3rd Kebbi Women’s Ramadan Lecture and Distribution of Palliatives to 1,000 Women and Orphans,” saw beneficiaries receive bags of rice and cash support.
Speaking at the event in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, Nasir-Idris said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship among women. She expressed appreciation to Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, wife of the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, for her mentorship, noting that the programme builds on foundations previously laid in the state.
She urged women to prioritise the proper upbringing of their children, highlighting concerns over moral challenges posed by modern technology, particularly the use of mobile phones. She encouraged mothers to pray for their children and guide them to contribute positively to society.
The governor’s wife also called on residents to support her husband’s second-term bid, saying it would enhance development in the state.
In separate virtual remarks, Fatima Dikko-Radda, Amina Umar-Namadi, and Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu advised beneficiaries to make wise use of both the knowledge shared and the material support received. They emphasised that Ramadan represents kindness and mercy towards the less privileged and urged prayers for peace, especially in the North-West region and across Nigeria.
Delivering a lecture titled “Truth and Trust in Islam,” Zainab Ja’afar-Adam, daughter of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud-Adam, cautioned women against behaviours associated with hypocrisy, including dishonesty, betrayal of trust, breaking promises, and excessive retaliation.
She encouraged mothers to model justice, honesty, and uprightness, reminding them that they serve as the first teachers of their children. She also advised leaders to prioritise merit over favouritism in appointments.
Speaking on the “Importance of Unity,” Hussaini Abubakar-Giro emphasised the need for unity within the Muslim community, urging compassion and mutual support to strengthen peaceful coexistence.
Other speakers, including Malam Nafi’u Kabiru and Malama Hauwa Abubakar-Zaki, highlighted the vital role of women in shaping society and stressed the importance of justice, particularly among leaders.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Halima Hassan-Kamba, commended the state administration for prioritising women-focused initiatives.
