The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Sen. Umar Tafida, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, sponsors and the people of the state for the successful hosting of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

Tafida, who serves as Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the 2026 fishing festival, gave the commendation on Monday during the closing ceremony of the event.

He said President Tinubu’s presence at the festival underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage and tourism development.

According to him, sustained federal support has created an enabling environment for cultural innovation and economic growth.

The deputy governor also commended Gov. Nasir Idris for his leadership and commitment to the successful organisation of the festival, describing him as the chief promoter of its revival and repositioning on the global cultural tourism map.

Tafida further lauded the Emir of Argungu, Muhammad Sama’ila-Mera, and the Argungu Emirate Council for their guidance and dedication to preserving the historic festival.

He acknowledged the contributions of sponsors and strategic partners, noting that their financial and technical support played a crucial role in the festival’s success.

The chairman particularly appreciated the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and other stakeholders in the Nigerian automotive industry for supporting the Argungu Motor Rally, which he said added excitement and national appeal to the event.

He also commended fishermen, cultural groups, security agencies, media personnel and volunteers for their discipline and dedication throughout the festival.

Tafida reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining and improving the festival, while praying for continued peace and progress in Kebbi State and the country at large.
