Katsina Tertiary Institutions Suspend Two-Week Warning Strike

The Joint Consultative Forum of tertiary institutions owned by the Katsina State Government has suspended its two-week warning strike.

The Chairman of the forum, Dr Muhammad Nasir-Gidado, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Katsina on Saturday.

The forum had embarked on the strike on January 12, 2026, over the state government’s failure to address its demands.

According to Nasir-Gidado, the demands include the non-approval and non-implementation of 35 per cent and 25 per cent salary increments for staff of the affected institutions, as well as the immediate implementation of proper placement for non-migrated staff on the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS 15).

He added that the forum also protested the increase in students’ registration fees without consideration for the prevailing economic hardship, which has negatively affected student enrolment.

“Following the intervention of relevant key stakeholders and concerned respected indigenes of the state, the forum wishes to announce the suspension of this warning strike,” he said.

Nasir-Gidado explained that it was agreed that negotiations with the state government would commence immediately to resolve all outstanding issues.

“In view of the above, we are calling on all our respected members to resume their primary assignments with the usual dedication and commitment to duty with immediate effect,” he said.

The affected institutions include Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic; Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma; Yusuf Bala Usman College of Education and Legal Studies, Daura; College of Nursing Sciences (Katsina and Malumfashi campuses); College of Health Science and Technology (Daura and Kankia campuses); and the Institute of Technology and Management.

He thanked parents and students for their understanding and assured them of the forum’s commitment to pursuing the demands through dialogue.
