At least 100 indigent patients battling various urological conditions in Katsina State and adjoining communities are receiving free surgical treatment under a humanitarian health intervention sponsored by Alhaji Dahiru Barau-Mangal.
The initiative was announced by Mr Hussaini Kabir, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mangal Foundation, during the launch of the foundation’s fourth-quarter medical outreach programme held on Wednesday in Katsina.
The ongoing exercise is being conducted at the Amadi Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital, Batagarawa Local Government Area, where specialists are providing screening, treatment and surgical services.
Kabir explained that the foundation organises the medical outreach quarterly and that the 2025 edition had so far attracted more than 260 patients from Katsina and other states.
According to him, the programme forms part of the foundation’s corporate social responsibility, with emphasis on identifying and managing a wide range of urological ailments.
He noted that while some beneficiaries would receive free medication after screening, patients requiring advanced medical attention were also being fully supported.
Kabir disclosed that patients slated for surgery had earlier undergone comprehensive laboratory investigations, adding that surgical procedures had already commenced.
He assured that the foundation would bear the full cost of the surgeries, including post-operative care, until each patient had fully recovered and was discharged.
Kabir further stated that the Mangal Foundation remained committed to empowerment, education, development and humanitarian causes, particularly interventions that support vulnerable populations in healthcare and skills development.
One of the beneficiaries, Malam Dauda Waziri, said he had suffered from the condition for years but was unable to afford surgery, describing the intervention as a turning point in his life.
Another beneficiary, Malam Ibrahim Lawal, who said he had lived with the ailment for over three years, appealed to other well-meaning individuals to support similar initiatives for the less privileged.
Also speaking, Hassan Usman expressed appreciation for the intervention, saying it had renewed hope for many families and restored dignity to patients who had lost confidence due to prolonged illness.
