Kano Renumbers Market Stalls to Strengthen Revenue Collection

Kano, June 4, 2026 – The management of Sabon-Gari, Singa, and Galadima markets has inaugurated a 14-member committee tasked with renumbering all stalls within the Sabon-Gari market as part of efforts to enhance revenue collection and strengthen market administration.

The committee was inaugurated on Thursday in Kano by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Sabon-Gari Market, Musbahu Abdullahi, popularly known as Shadow, representing the Managing Director of the board, Alhaji Abdul Bashir-Hussaini.

Speaking during the inauguration, Bashir-Hussaini said the exercise became necessary following the rapid growth of commercial activities and structural developments that have taken place within the market in recent years.

According to him, although government-owned shops are properly identified with numbers, several privately owned stalls either lack identification numbers, carry obsolete labels, or have been partitioned into multiple units over time.

He noted that the renumbering exercise would help establish a reliable and up-to-date database of all stalls, making revenue administration more efficient while also aiding planning and management of the market environment.

Bashir-Hussaini assured traders that the exercise would not disrupt business activities and clarified that no charges would be imposed on stall owners for the renumbering process.

He also commended members of the business community for their support and collaboration with market authorities in advancing development initiatives across the markets.

In his remarks, the Director of Technical Services and Co-Chairman of the committee, Malam Sani Shehu-Ibrahim, explained that members would be divided into two operational teams to ensure wider coverage and smooth implementation of the assignment.

Shehu-Ibrahim expressed optimism that the committee would conclude the renumbering exercise within three to four weeks, paving the way for improved market records and more efficient management of commercial activities.
