Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party in southern Kaduna State have expressed confidence that the party remains a strong and competitive platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was made known during an expanded caucus meeting of the party’s Kaduna South Senatorial District held in Kafanchan, where leaders reaffirmed unity and ongoing preparations for the next election cycle.
The Zonal Chairman, Akusor Danjuma, assured members, supporters, and aspiring candidates that the party remains intact and will fully participate in the 2027 elections.
He encouraged aspirants under the party’s platform to remain focused, noting that internal arrangements were being made to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all contenders.
According to him, while the party may consider direct primaries, consultations among aspirants are ongoing to build consensus on positions across local government areas.
He added that members are engaging in discussions aimed at resolving potential disputes and strengthening internal unity ahead of the polls.
Former state party chairman, Felix Hyet, described the PDP as a foundational force in Nigeria’s democratic journey, saying many politicians currently in other parties once emerged from its ranks.
He expressed optimism that internal disagreements within the party would be resolved through dialogue and reconciliation.
Also speaking, former deputy governor Nuhu Bajoga said the party continues to enjoy strong grassroots backing in southern Kaduna, describing the region as a traditional support base for the PDP.
He maintained that the party’s influence in the area remains intact and should not be underestimated ahead of the elections.
A House of Assembly aspirant, Danjuma Sarki, dismissed concerns about defections and political pressure, insisting that such challenges would not affect the party’s performance in 2027.
He expressed confidence that the party would remain competitive and deliver strong results in the upcoming elections.
Other stakeholders at the meeting also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress, blaming its leadership for worsening economic conditions and rising hardship in the country.
They argued that Nigerians are increasingly seeking an alternative political platform that can deliver improved governance and better living standards.
The meeting ended with renewed assurances from party leaders that the PDP remains united, focused, and prepared to contest strongly in the 2027 general elections
