Kaduna Roads Agency Boss Hails Progress on Township Projects, Sets August Deadline

The Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr. Abdullahi Baba-Ahmed, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and standard of work on ongoing township road projects across Kaduna State.

He made the remarks during an inspection tour of several project sites in Rigasa, Ungwan Romi, PAN Drive, Sokoto Road, Millennium City, and Kabala Costain, where major road infrastructure works are being executed to improve urban mobility and living conditions.

At the Makera Road site in Rigasa, Baba-Ahmed commended the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), for adhering strictly to project specifications and maintaining quality standards. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the scheduled two-month timeline.

He also urged contractors handling various road projects to speed up construction activities ahead of the peak rainy season expected in August.

According to him, the state government has fully compensated property owners affected along the project corridors, thereby eliminating delays linked to right-of-way issues.

He stressed that the contractor had been given a firm deadline of two months to deliver the infrastructure to residents of the area.

Baba-Ahmed noted that drainage and hydraulic components of the projects were progressing satisfactorily, adding that quality checks had confirmed compliance with required standards, including the use of precast concrete and approved laboratory test results.

He appealed to residents to remain patient with temporary disruptions caused by construction work, while commending community leaders for their cooperation.

During the inspection, he also assessed the dual carriageway and bridge project linking Kaduna North and Kaduna South Local Government Areas via Aliyu Makama Road in Barnawa.

He explained that the project, which was inherited at about 30 per cent completion, had recorded significant progress under the current administration. According to him, 42 out of 56 bridge beams have already been installed, with the remaining ones expected to be completed within days.

He added that the road is projected to be open to traffic before the end of August, noting that contractors have been directed to fast-track work to ease congestion along the Ahmadu Bello Way corridor.

Baba-Ahmed further disclosed that the administration of Governor Uba Sani has initiated 150 new road projects in addition to inherited ones, bringing ongoing road construction across the state to about 1,345 kilometres in all 23 local government areas.

He said several projects have already been completed, while others are at different stages of execution.

The consultant for the Rigasa project, Engr. Usman Abdulkadir, confirmed that the contractor has complied with specifications and that all right-of-way challenges had been resolved, expressing optimism that delivery would be achieved within the set timeline.

Meanwhile, the Dakachi of Rigasa, Alhaji Abubakar Yahuza, described the project as a major relief for residents, noting that it would improve connectivity to Mando, Kaduna Airport and other key parts of the state.

He commended the government for prioritising infrastructure development in the community.

The inspection exercise underscored ongoing efforts by the Kaduna State Government to ensure timely delivery of road projects while maintaining strict adherence to quality standards.
