Iyabo Obasanjo Resigns from APC, Says She Felt Disrespected

Former Ogun Central senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, has announced her resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying her decision was influenced by what she described as a lack of respect from the party.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, Obasanjo said the move came after thorough consultations and careful consideration of recent developments within the party.

She explained that she joined the APC with genuine intentions and devoted considerable effort to building the party’s support base across Ogun Central and other parts of the state.

According to her, she remained steadfast in promoting internal democracy, fairness and mutual respect throughout her bid for the governorship.

Obasanjo noted that she embraced the party’s consensus arrangement in the interest of unity and later worked cooperatively with the candidate eventually selected by the party.

However, she expressed disappointment that her contributions, sacrifices and the expectations of her supporters were not given adequate recognition.

The former lawmaker said that after extensive consultations and personal reflection, she formally notified the party leadership of her decision to end her membership of the APC.

Quoting from her resignation letter, she stated that when an individual is met only with disrespect, the appropriate response is to walk away.

Obasanjo also thanked Bola Tinubu and other party leaders for the courtesies shown to her during her time in the APC.

She added that her commitment to public service, justice, fairness and the advancement of Ogun State and Nigeria remains unchanged despite her departure from the party.
