The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced the killing of a senior commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in Lebanon.
In a statement posted on X on Monday, the IDF identified the commander as Abu Hamza Rami, alleging that he was responsible for coordinating and carrying out numerous attacks against Israeli troops and civilians. The military said he played a key role in recruiting and training fighters, procuring weapons, and managing the movement of PIJ operatives along the Syria-Lebanon border.
According to the IDF, the operation has significantly weakened PIJ’s capacity to conduct attacks against Israel.
PIJ is an armed group allied with Hamas.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions following a large-scale offensive launched by the United States and Israel against Iran. The escalation intensified after the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, during the joint operation.
In response, the Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon fired rockets into Israel. Lebanese authorities said retaliatory Israeli strikes on Monday killed at least 52 people and injured 154 others, according to an updated government toll.
