An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, has dissolved a seven-year Islamic marriage between Mukaila Zainab and AbdulJelil Suleiman over lack of love and care.
Delivering the ruling, the presiding judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, said there was no reason to prolong the matter since both parties had mutually agreed to end the marriage.
The court ordered the wife to observe a one-month Iddah (waiting period) before remarrying.
The case was adjourned until April 15 for hearing on the issue of child custody.
Earlier, the petitioner told the court that she sought the dissolution of the marriage due to absence of love and care from her husband. She also requested custody of the couple’s two children.
She further asked the court to order the respondent to pay N40,000 monthly as maintenance for the children, in addition to being responsible for their school fees and medical expenses.
The respondent consented to the divorce but opposed granting custody of the children to the petitioner.
