The wife of the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government Council, Mrs Kadijat Ladega, has urged mothers to prioritise proper parental guidance in order to raise children who will contribute positively to national development.
Ladega made the call during a combined breaking of fast with Muslim and Christian women held at the council secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
She charged women to be intentional about parenting, stressing the importance of raising responsible children who would contribute meaningfully to the country’s growth and development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme was facilitated by the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department of the council.
The event provided a platform for prayers, reflection and fellowship among women across the local government area.
According to Ladega, the programme was designed to foster unity, empathy and peaceful coexistence among women, particularly during seasons that emphasise sacrifice, charity and spiritual renewal.
She said strengthening families and empowering women remain critical pillars for building resilient communities and advancing national development.
“The initiative forms part of the Ladega-led administration’s continued efforts to promote social harmony, women’s inclusion and community-based engagement.
“It will also strengthen relationships among residents of Ikorodu while complementing the broader national vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” she said.
She added that the gathering featured Lenten reflections and prayers for Christian participants, while also acknowledging the significance of the Ramadan fast being observed by Muslim faithful.
Ladega disclosed that more than 500 beneficiaries received food palliatives during the event as part of the administration’s commitment to social welfare in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting to the initiative, Princess Busola Isikalu, the Iyaloja of Ikorodu, commended the chairman’s wife for organising the programme.
Isikalu noted that the season had brought Muslims and Christians together and emphasised the need for unity and love to promote national progress.
Among those present at the event were the council’s Vice Chairman, Babawale Alogba, members of the legislative arm of the council, wives of political office holders, representatives of the Community Development Committee, political leaders and religious leaders.
