Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Commences Upgrade of Elepe Primary Health Centre

Ikorodu, Lagos State, June 25, 2026 – Efforts to improve access to quality healthcare at the community level received a boost as the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) commenced rehabilitation work on the Elepe Primary Health Centre in Ikorodu.

The project involves the renovation of the health facility’s building and replacement of its flooring as part of initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare services for residents.

Chairman of the LCDA, Mr Hammed Aroyewun, said the intervention was designed to modernise the facility and create a more hygienic, secure and welcoming environment for patients, medical personnel and visitors.

According to him, the renovation reflects the council’s determination to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve service delivery across communities within the LCDA.

He stressed that access to quality healthcare remains fundamental to sustainable development, noting that governments must continue to prioritise investments in the sector to improve the welfare of citizens.

Aroyewun stated that meaningful development begins with the provision of essential services, particularly healthcare, adding that communities deserve access to medical care in facilities that uphold dignity and comfort.

He described the project as more than a physical upgrade, saying it represents an effort to rebuild public confidence in government-owned health institutions while improving the overall healthcare experience.

The council chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in people-centred projects, noting that residents remain the greatest resource of the local government.

He explained that the renovation aligns with the infrastructure pillar of the administration’s GLORY Agenda, which focuses on rehabilitating and modernising key public facilities.

The project is being handled by Smart Construct Solution Nig. Ltd. under the supervision of the council’s Department of Works and Infrastructure.

Speaking on the development, the Supervisor for Health, Mrs Patricia Okosodo, described the exercise as both timely and essential, noting that the condition of healthcare facilities often serves as an indicator of government’s commitment to public welfare.

She expressed confidence that the upgraded facility would improve patient comfort and contribute to better healthcare outcomes for residents.

Also commenting, the Medical Officer of Health at the centre, Mr G.O. Akande, said the renovation would enhance hygiene standards and provide a safer environment for both staff and patients.

According to him, the improvements are expected to strengthen service delivery and make healthcare more accessible and efficient for users of the facility.

Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Mr Wasiu Olowu, said the administration remained focused on ensuring balanced development across all communities within the council area.

He noted that the Elepe Primary Health Centre project forms part of a broader programme aimed at upgrading public infrastructure and improving living standards for residents.

The health centre serves Elepe and surrounding communities, and stakeholders expressed optimism that the ongoing renovation would significantly enhance the quality of primary healthcare services available to the population.
