ICPC Takes Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai into Custody

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has taken into custody former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former governor was arrested on Wednesday night shortly after being released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

ICPC Spokesperson, John Odey, confirmed in a statement late Wednesday that the commission had taken El-Rufai into custody for questioning over allegations under investigation.

“Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations.

“ICPC writes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody as at close of work today Wednesday, the 18th day of February, 2026,” Odey said.

Earlier, the EFCC had released the former governor on bail after he spent two nights in its custody.

A source close to the commission confirmed that El-Rufai was released late Wednesday after meeting the bail conditions.

He had been in EFCC custody since Monday, when he honoured the commission’s invitation to respond to corruption allegations levelled against his administration.
