Abuja, May 18, 2026 About 1,000 women in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have benefited from an empowerment initiative organised by the women’s wing of the City Boy Movement (CBM).
The programme also served as a platform for the group to express support for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu through grassroots mobilisation efforts.
The initiative was coordinated by the FCT chapter of the CBM women’s wing under the Office of the National Coordinator for Women Affairs.
According to the organisers, the programme was designed to enhance women’s economic activities, encourage community participation and strengthen grassroots engagement in governance.
In a statement released on Monday, the National Coordinator for Women Affairs, Hajiya Ummusalma Rabiu, described women empowerment as an important tool for reducing poverty and promoting national growth.
She noted that women continue to play significant roles in voter education, democratic participation and community mobilisation.
Also speaking, the FCT Women Affairs Coordinator, Dr Ene Adugba, said the initiative targeted vulnerable and hardworking women in need of economic support.
Adugba explained that the programme also helped create awareness about the policies and achievements of the Tinubu administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to her, the administration has continued to implement reforms and intervention programmes aimed at improving the economy despite existing socio-economic difficulties.
She added that the government had demonstrated commitment through policies focused on economic stability, infrastructure development and social welfare.
The coordinator further highlighted initiatives in food security, youth and women empowerment, transportation investment, agricultural support and student loan expansion.
She also pointed to efforts in improving security coordination and encouraging job creation and enterprise development.
Beneficiaries at the event received various empowerment items and support packages intended to boost small-scale businesses, increase household income and promote self-reliance.
Adugba reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT women’s wing to mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of future elections, stressing the importance of sustaining ongoing reforms and development programmes across key sectors of the economy.
