The Forum of State Chairmen of Accord Party in the Southwest has introduced a new set of zonal executives to strengthen coordination and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The forum also appealed to governors in the region to give priority to citizens’ safety and well-being, particularly by tackling insecurity and banditry.
These formed part of the resolutions from its quarterly meeting, contained in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Hon. Rotimi Oke, on Friday in Ibadan.
The meeting, which took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre in Ibadan, was attended by Accord chairmen from the six southwestern states.
Oke explained that the essence of the gathering was to assess the party’s progress in the region and chart strategies to position it as a major player in the coming elections.
Other resolutions included efforts to build the party’s popularity across the southwest, attract fresh membership, field credible candidates in 2027, and expand grassroots support.
“The chairman of Accord in Oyo State has been named the new Southwest Chairman, while his Lagos counterpart was appointed Secretary for the region.
“Other positions include Ondo chairman as Director of Finance; Ekiti chairman as Director of Welfare; Ogun chairman as Director of Media and Publicity.
“The slot of Director of Youth and Women Development was reserved for the Osun State chairman,” Oke noted.
The forum also passed a vote of confidence on the National Secretary of the party, Mrs. Adebukola Ajaja, for her outstanding leadership and role in strengthening the structure of the party across the southwest.
Speaking on behalf of the forum’s chairman, Oyo State Secretary, Hon. Olayinka Dairo, stressed that the 2027 elections would represent a decisive moment for Nigerians.
He added that the exercise would not follow old patterns, as Accord is committed to grooming new leaders and promoting fairness.
Dairo affirmed that Accord is determined to reshape the nation’s political future starting from the southwest, guided by principles of inclusiveness, integrity, and youth empowerment.
He further expressed confidence that with the leadership of the national secretary and national chairman, Accord Party is well placed to become a people-driven alternative with a vision for better governance.
