FRSC Secures Court Conviction Over Assault and Abduction of Officer During Traffic Incident

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the conviction of a motorist involved in the assault and unlawful detention of a traffic officer during a patrol operation along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Osondu Ohaeri, the incident was said to have occurred on April 30 at about 9:00 a.m. during enforcement activities by personnel of the Dutse Alhaji Unit Command.

According to the statement, officers had stopped a Toyota Hilux with registration number YAB 931 AE for a routine traffic check when the driver allegedly resisted instructions, attacked a marshal, and unlawfully restrained the officer while performing official duties.

The situation was later brought under control through the combined efforts of the patrol team and police officers attached to the operation. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the FCDA Police Station in Kubwa, while the vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

Following prosecution, the offender was arraigned before a competent court and found guilty.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, praised the restraint and professionalism shown by the patrol officers despite the provocation, describing the attack as an offence against public safety and lawful enforcement.

He reiterated that the agency remains committed to enforcing road traffic regulations in a firm but respectful manner, while upholding human rights standards.

Mohammed also cautioned motorists against any form of aggression or obstruction toward FRSC personnel and other security operatives carrying out lawful duties.

He urged road users to comply with traffic laws, stressing that cooperation with enforcement agencies is essential for improving road safety and reducing accidents nationwide.

He further assured that the Corps will continue to work with relevant security and judicial authorities to ensure that offenders who violate traffic laws or assault officers are duly prosecuted.
