FRSC, Police Arrest Traffic Offenders on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Motorist Jailed for Driving Against Traffic

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, in collaboration with its Ogun counterpart and the police, has carried out a joint patrol operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to curb traffic violations.

The operation, which focused on the Kara-OPIC axis of the expressway, led to the arrest of several motorists for various traffic offences.

The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the patrol was initiated to address the persistent issue of motorists driving against traffic.

Among those apprehended was Koko Moses, who was driving a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number MUS 89 YG. He was arrested for driving against traffic and for not possessing a valid driver’s licence.

The offender was subsequently charged before the Ojodu Abiodun Magisterial District Court by the Divisional Police Officer of Warewa Police Station. Upon arraignment, the court found him guilty and sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment.

Hamzat explained that the intensified enforcement along the corridor became necessary due to the recurring and dangerous practice of driving against traffic, especially amid ongoing construction work on bridge joints along both inward and outward lanes of the expressway.

He said the joint intervention, carried out with officers from Warewa Police Station, was aimed at enforcing compliance with traffic regulations, restoring order, and reducing the risk of avoidable road crashes.

Describing the act as reckless and unlawful, the sector commander warned that such behaviour remains a major cause of fatal accidents on the expressway.

He added that the command, working with other security agencies, would sustain enforcement and prosecution efforts to deter violators.

Motorists were advised to remain patient, obey traffic rules, and adhere to approved diversions during construction activities, stressing that no inconvenience justifies endangering lives.

The FRSC Lagos Sector Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safety, discipline, and smooth traffic flow across highways within its jurisdiction.
