Motorists in Benue State will not be arrested or penalised during a two-day free vehicle inspection exercise scheduled for May 6 and 7, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Benue, Victory Kayode-Oni, gave the assurance on Wednesday while supervising the exercise in Makurdi.
She explained that the initiative, known as “Operation Orange Impact,” is designed to promote road safety and will also be repeated in June as part of ongoing efforts to reduce road crashes.
According to her, the exercise focuses on ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy, particularly as the rainy season increases driving risks.
Kayode-Oni said the programme forms part of the corps’ corporate social responsibility aimed at encouraging safer roads and protecting commuters.
She noted that instead of issuing sanctions during the period, FRSC personnel would guide drivers on key safety checks such as tyres, windscreen wipers, brakes, and other essential vehicle components.
She further stated that the corps will continue its usual roles of public sensitisation, traffic enforcement, and road safety advocacy.
The sector commander observed that ongoing road construction projects in the state have contributed to increased traffic violations, adding that the agency would step up efforts to manage the situation.
She also assured that the FRSC would work closely with the Benue State Ministry of Works and Transport and other relevant bodies to curb infractions and improve compliance.
Kayode-Oni added that measures have been put in place to maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion despite diversions and road maintenance activities.
