FRSC begins ‘Operation Guduma’ to curb mixed loading on Kaduna–Abuja Highway

Kakau (Kaduna State), May 18, 2026 The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced a special enforcement exercise tagged “Operation Guduma” along the Kaduna–Abuja Highway to tackle mixed loading and other traffic violations.

The operation was carried out on Monday in the Kakau axis of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Speaking during the exercise, Assistant Corps Marshal Abdullahi Hassan said the initiative was designed to ensure strict compliance with road traffic regulations in order to reduce crashes and improve safety.

He explained that the operation was directed by the FRSC national headquarters to address practices such as mixed loading, use of fake number plates and other dangerous traffic offences on the highway.

According to him, mixed loading—where passengers are transported alongside goods, animals or farm produce in trucks—poses severe risks to lives on the road.

He described the practice as highly dangerous, noting that it often results in fatalities and serious injuries, including permanent disabilities, when accidents occur.

Hassan said the exercise aims to eliminate such unsafe practices and promote safer road transportation nationwide.

He also raised concerns over the growing use of counterfeit vehicle number plates, including fake diplomatic registrations.

He said some individuals had resorted to producing and using forged plates, which contributed to the need for the special enforcement operation.

Hassan disclosed that he was deployed from the FRSC headquarters to oversee and monitor the exercise on behalf of the Corps Marshal.

He further explained that passengers found riding on top of trucks were immediately removed and sensitised on the dangers involved.

According to him, such passengers are often the most vulnerable in the event of a crash, as they are the first to be injured or killed.

He added that the corps continues to emphasise public education and awareness while ensuring that offenders are sanctioned to deter future violations.

The operation, which is expected to last one week, also led to the impoundment of several vehicles found to be in breach of traffic regulations.
