Former President Jonathan Disowns Fake Instagram Profile

The office of former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has cautioned members of the public against engaging with an Instagram account falsely claiming to represent him.

The warning was issued in a statement released by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, who clarified that Jonathan does not operate any personal account on Instagram.

According to the statement, the account currently using the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan is not affiliated with the former president and should be regarded as an impersonation account.

Eze explained that the account has repeatedly changed its identity, sometimes presenting itself as a fan page while at other times creating the impression that it is officially managed by Jonathan.

He noted that the account’s operators have altered the username multiple times in what appears to be an effort to mislead users and maintain credibility among unsuspecting followers.

“The account occasionally identifies itself as a fan page but often impersonates the former president,” he said.

He further disclosed that the username associated with the account had already been changed several times, adding that efforts were being made to draw the attention of Meta, the parent company of Instagram, to the issue.

The former president’s office urged the public to remain vigilant and disregard any messages, posts or engagements originating from the account, stressing that it has no connection to Jonathan.
