Former Benue Speaker Speaks Out on Resignation: ‘I’ve Moved On

Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Dajoh, has publicly addressed his recent resignation, stating that he has “moved on” and urging for calm and unity within the state.

Dajoh, who held the position from June 5, 2023, until his resignation on August 24, 2025, stepped down amid speculation of an impending impeachment by some Assembly members. His departure led to the immediate swearing-in of Alfred Emberga, a previously suspended legislator, as the new Speaker.

Taking to his official Facebook page on Monday, Dajoh shared a message of gratitude to his supporters and reflected on his time in office.

“It’s already public knowledge that I submitted my resignation as Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly on August 24, 2025. I have moved on from that chapter,” he wrote.

He extended his appreciation to his Gboko West (Gbemacha) constituents, crediting them for first electing him into the 10th Assembly. Dajoh also thanked his fellow lawmakers for electing him as the first Speaker of the 10th Assembly and for standing by him throughout his tenure.

In the post, he acknowledged the unwavering support of Governor Hyacinth Alia, saying, “My sincere thanks go to the Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his encouragement from the start of my speakership to its end.”

Dajoh also recognized the efforts of Assembly staff, his personal aides, and his family, with a heartfelt mention of his wife, Kundumiyol Dajoh.

“I must especially appreciate my wife, Kundumiyol Dajoh, who gave me immense love and support throughout my time in office. She exemplifies what it means to be a supportive partner.”

He concluded his message with a plea for reconciliation:
“Let peace reign, and let us move forward. The journey is far from over.”
