First Lady Unveils Red Cross National Headquarters, Pledges N100m Support

Abuja, June 26, 2026 – Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to humanitarian causes following the inauguration of the newly completed National Headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

At the event held on Friday, the First Lady, who was recently installed as the organisation’s first Grand Matron, announced a donation of N100 million to support the activities of Red Cross personnel and volunteers across the country.

She expressed appreciation to the leadership of the society for the invitation and for the honour bestowed on her through the investiture ceremony held at the Presidential Villa.

According to her, the completion of the headquarters reflects the organisation’s dedication to easing human suffering and providing assistance to vulnerable groups nationwide.

Mrs Tinubu noted that the facility would enhance the society’s ability to coordinate relief operations, improve efficiency in delivering humanitarian services, and expand its reach to communities in need.

She praised the Nigerian Red Cross for its longstanding contributions within and outside the country, highlighting its role in emergency response, disaster management, healthcare support, conflict intervention, and humanitarian outreach.

The First Lady commended the organisation’s leadership, workforce, development partners, and volunteers for their commitment and sacrifices, describing their efforts as impactful and life-changing for many Nigerians.

She subsequently declared the new headquarters officially open for use.

In his remarks, the National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Mr Oluyemisi Adeaga, acknowledged the support of the First Lady and expressed optimism that the new facility would create opportunities for expanded humanitarian interventions and institutional growth.

He also appreciated President Bola Tinubu, who serves as the Grand Patron of the society, for supporting the vision of establishing a modern centre for humanitarian operations and research.

Adeaga stressed the need for greater collaboration in addressing growing humanitarian concerns across the country, including insecurity, hunger, displacement, and the effects of climate change.

He noted that despite financial constraints, the organisation had remained committed to serving vulnerable populations over the decades and would continue to uphold its humanitarian mandate.

Also speaking, the Head of Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Nigeria, Doris El Doueihy, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting people affected by armed conflicts, particularly in the North-East and North-West regions.

She said the ICRC would continue to provide humanitarian assistance, healthcare services, and protection to affected communities, while congratulating the Nigerian Red Cross on the completion of the headquarters.

El Doueihy described the facility as an important step toward strengthening humanitarian action and ensuring that more Nigerians benefit from the support and services offered by the Red Cross movement.

The inauguration marked a significant milestone for the society as it seeks to expand its humanitarian footprint and improve service delivery to vulnerable communities across the nation.
