FG Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening School Security After Rescue of Niger Pupils

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing security around schools and protecting students nationwide.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance when he led a Federal Government delegation on a visit to the Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago.

This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim.

Idris described the rescue of some of the abducted pupils of St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papyri, in Niger State, as a moment of profound relief for the country and the affected families.

“We are grateful for the tireless work of our security agencies, the swift response of the Niger State Government, and the strong community cooperation that made this outcome possible,” he said.

He restated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening school security and ensuring the safety of all citizens, noting that the protection and welfare of Nigerian children remain a top priority.

“Our children must be able to learn safely. The Federal Government is committed to working closely with states to boost school security and ensure such violations of our collective peace have no place in our country,” Idris said.

He commended the coordinated efforts of security agencies, the Niger State Government and community stakeholders, describing their collaboration as crucial to the success of the rescue operation.

According to the statement, Governor Bago thanked the Minister and the delegation for the visit and lauded the roles played by security agencies and local communities in securing the release of the pupils.

He reaffirmed Niger State’s readiness to continue collaborating with the Federal Government on security and social stability.
