The Lekan Otufodunrin Mentees Network (LOMNET) will hold its first interactive virtual media summit on Friday, focusing on mentoring and innovative journalism.Summit Coordinator, Sanmi Falobi, announced this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.The event, themed “Media Career, Mentoring & Innovative Journalism: Identifying the Gaps, Connecting the Dots”, will explore strategies for bridging gaps in media careers and fostering innovation in journalism.Falobi explained that the programme aims to address the rapidly evolving media landscape in Nigeria, where opportunities and challenges continue to shape the profession.“Career mentoring and structured guidance are crucial for emerging media professionals,” he said. “They help transform raw talent into industry-ready skills, resilience, and creativity, ensuring lasting contributions to the field.”He added that while digital tools and artificial intelligence have expanded opportunities for creativity, the guidance of experienced mentors remains vital for impactful communication and journalism initiatives.The Zoom event, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. WAT, will feature prominent media development experts, seasoned mentors, role models, and young professionals. Discussions will focus on enhancing mentoring practices, linking them with innovative journalism, and creating new pathways for media growth.The programme will include expert insights, mentee–mentor testimonials, a plenary session, and networking opportunities. It will also feature the public unveiling of “Milestones of a Media Icon: A Collection of Plaudits & Testimonials on Lekan Otufodunrin” a publication compiled by Falobi, who serves as Project Manager at the International Press Centre and is a long-time mentee of Otufodunrin.According to him, the publication captures Otufodunrin’s career achievements, leadership qualities, mentoring contributions, and the transformative influence he has had on journalists over the years.
