ECCIMA Elects Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe as 18th President

The Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) has elected its former First Deputy President, Mr. Nnanyelugo Onyemelukwe, as its 18th President for a two-year term.

Onyemelukwe emerged unopposed at the chamber’s 52nd Annual General Meeting held on Thursday at its Secretariat in Enugu, replacing the outgoing President, Sir Odeiga Jideonwo.

Speaking to journalists ahead of the meeting, Jideonwo thanked members for their support during his tenure and urged the new president to consolidate on existing achievements while addressing identified gaps to move the chamber to greater heights.

He also announced that the 37th Enugu International Trade Fair will hold from March 21 to March 30, 2026, with the theme “Empowering MSMEs for Global Competitiveness.” According to him, a detailed roadmap has been developed, with implementation already underway as marketing activities began last year. He noted growing interest from both local and international organisations.

Jideonwo further commended the Enugu State Government for its “visible and sustainable commitment” to urban renewal and infrastructure development, highlighting the construction of 260 Smart Schools, road projects, and transport infrastructure across the state.

Declaring the meeting open, Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Investment and Industry, Mr. Sam Nwobodo, called on ECCIMA and the business community to continue supporting the state government’s development agenda.

In his acceptance speech, Onyemelukwe pledged to deepen member engagement and improve business visibility by integrating members’ enterprises into the chamber’s website, making them accessible to a global audience.

“We will actively engage our members, bring them into productive business groups, and ensure their businesses gain global visibility through a functional and accessible digital platform,” he said.
