Ebonyi Commissioner Resigns, Joins PDP Ahead of 2027

Abakaliki, June 7, 2026 – The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring, Mr Felix Igboke, has resigned from his position and defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Igboke announced his defection on Sunday during a PDP political gathering in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area, which was attended by party leaders, executives, and supporters. He also claimed to have moved alongside more than 10,000 supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He described his return to the PDP as a homecoming, saying his political career originally began within the party.

According to him, the decision was driven by the desire to align with a platform better positioned to promote inclusive governance and deliver development to the people.

“I am happy to return to the political platform that built me. I served as a councillor, development centre coordinator and chairman of Onicha Local Government Area under the same party before I joined the APC,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to PDP members in Ebonyi State, particularly the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii, whom he referred to as the incoming governor.

The state chairman of the PDP, Mr Chukwuma Igwe, welcomed Igboke and his supporters, describing the defection as a significant boost to the party’s strength ahead of the 2027 elections.

Igwe said the growing number of entrants into the party reflected rising public confidence in its leadership and political direction, adding that the PDP was steadily rebuilding its structures across the state.

Also speaking, the PDP candidate for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, Mr Eni-Uduma Chima, said the party was experiencing rapid expansion in Ebonyi State.

He expressed confidence that the increasing support base would translate into electoral success for the party in future polls.

Chima urged party members to remain united and intensify efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the state.

The event was attended by party supporters, community leaders, and political stakeholders from different parts of Ebonyi State, who pledged continued support for the PDP.
