E1 Championship: Lagos Orders Closure of Jetties, Terminals Along Five Cowries Creek

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of all private and commercial jetties and terminals along the Five Cowries Creek from Friday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 5.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, issued the notice in a statement on Monday in Lagos, urging ferry operators, passengers, and stakeholders to take note of the restriction.

He explained that the closure is necessary to enable the smooth hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament, which will hold in Lagos along the Five Cowries Creek during the specified dates. Emmanuel emphasised that restricting activities on the waterways was a crucial safety and security measure to protect lives and ensure seamless operations while showcasing Lagos as a global destination for major sporting events.

According to him, normal operations will resume on Monday, Oct. 6, after the conclusion of the championship. He appealed to commuters to use alternative ferry routes and plan their movements in advance.

The LASWA boss expressed appreciation for the public’s understanding and cooperation, assuring that the government remains committed to promoting Lagos as a hub for innovative and world-class events.
