President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote as Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Law School (NLS), effective January 10, for a four-year tenure. The announcement was made by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga in Abuja.
Odusote, who currently serves as Deputy DG and Head of the NLS Lagos Campus, will be the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962. She succeeds Prof. Isa Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure ends on January 9.
She earned her LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. Odusote holds an LL.M. in company and commercial law from the same university and a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, with research interests in Public Law and the Administration of Justice.
Joining the NLS in 2001 as a lecturer, Odusote has held several key positions, including Head of Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.
Odusote has published extensively in reputable local and international law journals, presented papers at numerous legal education conferences, and served on committees of both the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As DG, she will provide academic leadership and oversee administrative and strategic management across all NLS campuses. She will also serve as the principal liaison with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
