Diesel Tanker Falls, Catches Fire on Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

A diesel-laden tanker has toppled and caught fire along the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State.

Sector Commander Franklin Agbakoba confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the crash occurred around 6:16 p.m.

He explained that FRSC personnel promptly diverted traffic and advised motorists to use the Ngwo Community Road, popularly called “Ngwo Snake Road,” as an alternative route in and out of Enugu metropolis.

Agbakoba said the accident involved only the tanker and no casualties had been recorded at the time of the report. “There is no life lost in the incident for now,” he stated.

He further disclosed that both Federal and State Fire Service teams were at the scene working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

“At about 6:16 p.m. on September 25, 2025, the FRSC Enugu State Sector Command received a crash alert along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by Ugwu-Onyeama. Rescue teams from the State Sector and the FRSC 9th Mile Unit Commands were activated to the scene,” he added.

Agbakoba said additional details would be provided once available.
