Kafanchan, Kaduna State, May 30, 2026 — The Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa, has emphasized that enduring peace in Southern Kaduna can only be maintained through strong unity among residents and consistent community collaboration with security agencies.
Musa made this known on Saturday in Kafanchan during activities marking the Southern Kaduna Festival (SKFEST) 2026.
He explained that although security forces have recorded notable progress in stabilising the region, sustainable peace depends on active support and cooperation from local communities.
“The Armed Forces and other security agencies cannot succeed alone. We rely on the cooperation of communities, and when people support us, we achieve better results,” he said.
The minister called on residents to stay alert and report individuals suspected of assisting criminal groups through intelligence sharing and logistical support.
“We must identify those within our communities who are aiding criminal activities. Any suspicious behaviour should be reported promptly so appropriate action can be taken,” he added.
Commenting on national development efforts, Musa praised President Bola Tinubu for implementing difficult but necessary reforms aimed at addressing long-standing challenges.
He noted that while the reforms may cause temporary hardship, they are expected to produce long-term benefits for the country.
“The process we are experiencing is one that will ultimately strengthen our nation. Nigerians are encouraged to remain patient and supportive of ongoing government initiatives,” he said.
During the festival, Musa, who received an honour, pledged renewed commitment to national service.
“More dedication, more effort, and stronger commitment will be delivered. Our goal remains a safer and more peaceful Nigeria,” he stated.
Responding to the Southern Kaduna Grand Commander (SKGC) award conferred on him, the minister expressed appreciation, describing it as both a privilege and a responsibility to serve more diligently.
He stressed that the recognition symbolised collective effort rather than individual achievement.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this recognition. It comes with gratitude and a stronger resolve to serve.
“This honour is not mine alone but belongs to all those who continue to contribute selflessly to the development of Southern Kaduna. Progress is achieved through shared vision, sacrifice and cooperation,” he said.
The award was presented in recognition of his contributions to national security, peacebuilding efforts, and his representation of the region on the international stage.
The festival featured vibrant cultural displays, performances and exhibitions that attracted traditional leaders, government officials and visitors from across Nigeria, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Southern Kaduna.
