Davido Loses $50,000 Bet as Super Eagles Crash Out of AFCON

Afrobeats star David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has lost a $50,000 bet following Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco.

Nigeria and Morocco were locked in a tense encounter that ended 0-0 after regulation and extra time on Wednesday, before the Atlas Lions edged the Super Eagles 4-2 on penalties to seal a place in the final.

Hours before the match, Davido had taken to social media to share a screenshot of his betting slip, revealing that he placed $50,000 on Nigeria to defeat Morocco. The bet failed after Nigeria could not secure victory.

Meanwhile, popular Nigerian TikToker Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, also known as Peller, also reacted after losing a $3,000 bet on Nigeria to beat Morocco within 90 minutes.

Reacting during a livestream on Wednesday night, Peller sarcastically thanked the Super Eagles for their performance, lamenting his loss.

“Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well. I have lost my $3,000 bet,” he said.
“You were playing well in previous matches before I decided to place a bet and watch this game. Maybe if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again,” he added.

Morocco will now face Senegal in the AFCON final, while Nigeria will contest the third-place playoff.
