Customs Seize N3.39bn Worth of Codeine Syrup at Apapa Port

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Command, has seized 3,398 cartons of codeine syrup valued at N3.39 billion.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Isa Sulaiman, the operation was carried out in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Sulaiman, in a statement on Tuesday, quoted the Customs Area Controller, Emmanuel Oshoba, as saying the interception occurred during a follow-up operation on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

“The consignment was in 3,398 cartons carefully concealed in household utensils; it had a duty value of N3.39 billion,” Oshoba said.

He described the seizure as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to the directives and vision of the NCS.

Oshoba noted that the interception came just five days after the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, visited the Apapa Command and issued a strong warning to criminal elements.

He added that the command remained aligned with the NCS intelligence-led enforcement strategy and would continue to make Apapa Port hostile to smugglers and drug traffickers.

Oshoba commended the NDLEA for its collaboration and support in ensuring the success of the operation.

Adeniyi had recently declared that Apapa Port was no longer a safe haven for smugglers and criminal syndicates.
