Crackdown On Fake Fertiliser Dealers Urged By Jigawa AFAN

The Jigawa chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has urged the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) to intensify efforts to curb the spread of adulterated fertilisers in the state.State Chairman of AFAN, Alhaji Auwalu Garba, made the appeal on Saturday in Dutse, warning that the rising cost of fertilisers has created an opportunity for unscrupulous traders to smuggle and market substandard products to unsuspecting farmers.Garba noted that many rural farmers, who form the majority in the sector, struggle to distinguish between genuine and fake products due to misleading packaging and labelling. He called on both the CPC and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to take proactive measures to protect farmers from exploitation. The chairman commended the state government for providing fertilisers to farmers at subsidised rates and praised Governor Umar Namadi for supporting civil servants with agricultural inputs through the Workers’ Agricultural Support Programme. He also congratulated AFAN’s National Chairman, Dr Faruk Mudi, on the association’s recent victory at the Court of Appeal, expressing optimism that the ruling would end long-standing leadership disputes, foster unity among members, and strengthen the agricultural sector.
