A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday remanded a 40-year-old man, Mojeed Adigun, in a correctional centre for stealing 50 litres of palm oil worth N128,000.
The Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, remanded Adigun after he pleaded guilty to a one count charge of stealing.
Layeni adjourned the case until Oct. 23 for facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 25 at 8.30a.m at Agbalata market, Badagry.
Ekpo said that the defendant stole the palm oil belonging to the complainant, Mr Zosu Yemi.
He said the defendant was caught by passersby and handed him over to the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
It was reported that Section 287 stipulates three years jail term for stealing.
