Children’s Day: Adeleke restates commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and welfare

In Osogbo, Osun State, on May 27, 2026, Governor Ademola Adeleke has extended warm greetings to children on the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day, describing them as the foundation of the society’s future and a source of hope for development.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, the governor stressed that the celebration is a reminder of the shared duty to nurture, protect, and invest in children.

He said children play a central role in shaping the future, adding that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, protection, and equal opportunities regardless of their background or social status.

Adeleke added that the aspirations, talents, and potential of children remain crucial to the long-term growth of Osun State, noting that his administration prioritises the wellbeing of all children, whether in public schools, private institutions, or state care facilities.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies aimed at improving child welfare, strengthening access to education, ensuring safe learning environments, and enhancing living conditions for young people across the state.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to build a society where every child can develop their abilities and achieve their goals without barriers.

The governor also called on parents, guardians, teachers, and religious leaders to instil discipline, moral values, respect, and empathy in children, describing the upbringing of responsible citizens as a collective responsibility.

He cautioned against child abuse, neglect, exploitation, and other forms of violence, warning that any society that fails to protect its children endangers its future.

Adeleke encouraged children to celebrate responsibly, stay focused on their education, and believe in their potential.

He further assured that his administration would continue to prioritise the protection and development of children, adding that no effort would be spared in securing a better future for them.

He also urged citizens to support programmes and initiatives aimed at improving child welfare and strengthening the state’s future.

The theme of the 2026 National Children’s Day is “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” as announced by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, highlighting the need to ensure that every child is included regardless of background or circumstance.
