The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has called on members of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) 38 Regular Course to remain unwavering in their loyalty, unity, and patriotism as they continue to support national peace and security efforts.
Musa made the appeal in Abuja during a cocktail party held on Saturday night to mark the annual reunion of the Course 38 Association. He described the gathering as more than just a social occasion, noting that it represents the deep bonds of camaraderie formed through shared military training and service to the nation.
“This evening is not merely a celebration but a reaffirmation of the strong ties that unite us. Our regular course is not just a class; it is a family bound by sacrifice, duty, and service to our great nation,” he said.
The CDS commended the newly elected executives of the association for their dedication to upholding its values and urged them to build on the achievements of their predecessors. He also praised the outgoing leadership led by Maj.-Gen. Gadonwa for effectively steering the group and promoting unity among members.
Musa honoured fallen colleagues, describing their service and sacrifice as a lasting inspiration for those still in active duty. He encouraged members to use their platform to mentor younger officers, pursue professional excellence, and contribute meaningfully to strengthening the military.
“We have a duty not only to look out for one another but also to share ideas and initiatives that will strengthen the Armed Forces and advance our nation,” he added.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of the military, pledging the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s peace, security, and prosperity. Musa also offered a toast to the unity and progress of the Course 38 Association, the NDA, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, expressing confidence that their bond will continue to grow stronger.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, also commended the association for maintaining its culture of brotherhood, jokingly referring to its members as “his tormentors” while recalling memories from their training days.
Oluyede, who belongs to NDA Course 39, described Course 38 as unique, comprising “the good, the bad, and the very wise.” He praised its leadership for preserving a strong esprit de corps and thanked members for their support to the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces.
He also acknowledged the vital role of members’ families, noting that their support was instrumental to the officers’ achievements.
“Whatever we have become today is a reflection of those early days in the Academy — the discipline, the friendships, the trials, and the laughter. I appreciate you all and wish you the very best,” he said.
In his welcome remarks, the President of the 38 Regular Course Association, retired Rear Adm. Solomon Agada, expressed gratitude to God for sustaining members since their admission into the NDA on September 21, 1986.
Agada highlighted the association’s growth over the years, serving as a platform for unity, welfare, and professional collaboration. He also thanked spouses and corporate partners for their consistent support, describing them as integral to members’ success in and out of service.
The event featured tributes, shared memories, and toasts to unity, long life, and prosperity. It was attended by senior military officers, both serving and retired, alongside their families.
