Brazil to Introduce Visa-Free Entry for Chinese Citizens

Brazil has announced plans to grant visa-free entry to Chinese citizens travelling to the country for short-term visits, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between both nations.

The decision follows China’s earlier move to allow Brazilian passport holders to enter the country without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. China’s visa-free policy for Brazilians, which took effect in mid-2025, has been extended through the end of 2026.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva confirmed the planned visa waiver during a telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Under China’s policy, holders of ordinary Brazilian passports may travel visa-free for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges or transit purposes.

According to an official statement, Brazil’s decision forms part of broader efforts to expand cooperation in advanced knowledge sectors and promote greater mobility between both countries.

The development was reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

Chinese authorities currently extend unilateral visa-free access to citizens of several South American and Asian countries.

Brazilian officials said the reciprocal visa liberalisation is expected to boost people-to-people relations, encourage academic and cultural exchanges, and support growing economic and technological cooperation between Latin America and Asia.

During their discussion, the two leaders reviewed recent progress in bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in areas such as infrastructure development, ecological transition and technology.

They also exchanged views on global issues, stressing the importance of multilateralism, international law and open trade.

Brazil’s planned visa waiver for Chinese citizens is expected to further strengthen ties between the two major emerging economies and reinforce broader South-South cooperation initiatives.
