Beach Volleyball: Coach Thaj Attributes Quarterfinal Victory to Team’s Experience

Jonathan Thaj, head coach of Nigeria’s U-18 female beach volleyball team, has praised his players for using their experience to overcome Algeria and secure a place in the semifinals of the ongoing 2025 CAVB Beach Volleyball U-18 Boys and Girls Continental Championship.

The tightly contested quarterfinal match, held in Abuja on Wednesday, ended with Team Nigeria I defeating Algeria in straight sets, 2-0, thus earning a qualification spot for the upcoming FIVB World Championship.

The Nigerian girls displayed confidence and control throughout the match, winning the first set 21-13 and dominating the second set 21-5.

Speaking after the match, Coach Thaj commended the team for their discipline and preparedness.

“They executed the game plan well and followed instructions to the letter, which made a big difference. We’re now setting our sights on the semifinal match scheduled for later today,” he said.

In another quarterfinal clash in the female category, DR Congo clinched a 2-0 victory over Morocco I, winning 21-7 and 21-16 to also advance to the semifinals.

The 2025 continental championship, which kicked off on August 1, is scheduled to conclude on August 7.
