The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims that the party and the Federal Government are more focused on 2027 elections than governance.
Spokesman of the party in the state, Seye Oladejo, said in a statement on Friday that the APC remains committed to its reform agenda under President Bola Tinubu.
Oladejo was reacting to comments by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who accused the ruling party of placing politics ahead of national development.
Describing the governor’s remarks as “a misplaced outburst,” Oladejo maintained that Tinubu and the APC were tackling pressing issues in the economy, security, infrastructure, and institutional development.
“This administration has chosen to face the tough challenges of nation-building head-on, while some in the opposition are busy grandstanding in the media and chasing shadows,” he said.
He urged Mohammed to look to Lagos as an example of what he described as “visionary and people-centred governance” under the APC, stressing that the party would campaign in 2027 based on performance.
“Governance is not a press statement; it is the hard work of delivering real results. The APC is not distracted by 2027. When the time for elections comes, our performance will be our campaign,” Oladejo stated.
While acknowledging the opposition’s right to express its views, the APC spokesman said it was “ironic and regrettable” that such criticism came from Mohammed.
He advised the Bauchi governor to focus on addressing the developmental needs of his state rather than issuing what he called “baseless attacks” on the Federal Government and the APC.
