Badagry Local Government Boss Pledges Focus on Infrastructure for 2026

Mr Babatunde Hunpe, Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Lagos, on Tuesday announced that infrastructure development would be the cornerstone of his administration’s plans for 2026.

Hunpe made the declaration while briefing residents on what to expect from his leadership in the coming year.

He stated that the physical upgrade of the prominent Badagry Roundabout is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2026.

“Concrete plans have been put in place to enhance the ambience, aesthetics, and overall appearance of strategic locations within Badagry, starting with the Badagry Roundabout.

“The transformation will be noticeable to residents, visitors from ECOWAS member states, other parts of Lagos State, and Nigerians living abroad.

“Badagry Roundabout serves as a key gateway and a reflection of the town’s image,” he said.

Hunpe explained that the facelift is part of a broader infrastructure renewal and urban regeneration initiative aimed at repositioning Badagry as a hub for commerce, tourism, and cultural heritage.

He added that the projects would improve the quality of life for residents.

The chairman also revealed plans to roll out additional people-oriented infrastructure projects across the local government area.

He stressed that these initiatives are expected to boost local economic activity, improve mobility, and create a more business-friendly environment.

Hunpe noted that ongoing projects are just the beginning, carefully selected to align with and support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots level.

On environmental and urban management, he warned that the administration will strictly enforce regulations prohibiting trading on drainage channels, road setbacks, and other unauthorised locations.

He said such practices contribute to flooding, environmental degradation, traffic congestion, and pose safety risks.

The chairman urged residents, traders, and stakeholders to cooperate with the council, assuring them that the measures aim to build a cleaner, safer, and more orderly environment.

Hunpe reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to accountable governance, sustainable development, and the delivery of tangible, long-term benefits to the people of Badagry Local Government.
