The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic chapter in Zaria, Kaduna State, has announced an indefinite strike beginning Tuesday.
The branch chairman, Malam Usman Suleiman, confirmed the decision in a statement released on Monday. He explained that the move followed a recent meeting with officials of the Kaduna State Government, during which the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education appealed for patience, noting that Governor Uba Sani had “impliedly approved” the union’s demands.
Suleiman, however, said the union resolved to suspend all academic activities until the governor issues a formal approval.
He recalled that the congress had earlier directed the leadership to embark on strike if the Polytechnic Salary Structure (PSS) was not implemented after the payment of September 2025 salaries.
The union’s demands include the full implementation of CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structures for staff of state-owned tertiary institutions and the extension of the retirement age of 65 years to non-academic staff, a benefit already approved for academic staff.
“After due deliberations, members unanimously resolved to withdraw their services until the governor’s approval is formally granted,” Suleiman said.
