APC Governors Demand Transparent Process for Congresses, National Convention

The Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt a transparent, coordinated and accountable approach in the conduct of its party congresses and the forthcoming national convention.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja while presenting a communiqué after a meeting between APC governors and the party’s national leadership.

Uzodimma said openness, uniformity and accountability must underpin every phase of the process in order to build confidence and credibility within the party.

According to him, these principles should be applied consistently across all states, including those where the APC does not currently have sitting governors. He added that the Forum remained firmly committed to unity and internal cohesion within the party.

The PGF chairman stressed that responsible leadership, effective communication and collective discipline were critical to strengthening public trust in the APC’s internal democratic practices.

He reaffirmed the governors’ resolve to deepen internal democracy, reinforce party structures and pursue reforms that promote transparency, inclusiveness and accountability nationwide.

Uzodimma disclosed that the governors received a briefing from the APC national chairman on the party’s ongoing national e-registration and digital membership update exercise.

He noted that the initiative had recorded notable progress, including increased youth participation and the integration of the National Identity Number (NIN) into the party’s membership database.

According to him, the digital registration process would support data-driven decision-making, improve demographic analysis and strengthen grassroots mobilisation across communities.

The governors also endorsed the timetable and institutional framework approved by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for the conduct of upcoming congresses and the national convention.

Uzodimma commended the APC leadership, under the national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for providing direction and oversight for the process.

He further revealed plans for strategic engagements and state visits aimed at strengthening grassroots structures and enhancing party unity, noting that the visits would commence in Taraba on January 31.

He also formally welcomed the governors of Taraba and Plateau states into the Progressives Governors’ Forum.

Uzodimma reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to working closely with the APC leadership to promote national development, democratic consolidation and people-focused governance.

He added that the governors expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, pledging continued collaboration with him to ensure effective governance at all levels.
