APC aspirant files court challenge against Zamfara North primary result

Gusau, May 25, 2026

Dr. Sani Shinkafi, an aspirant in the APC primary for the Zamfara North Senatorial District, has taken legal action to contest the outcome of the party’s primary election.

Shinkafi was one of the contenders seeking the APC ticket for the senatorial seat in Zamfara North.

Sen. Sahabi Ya’u, the incumbent lawmaker, emerged winner of the APC senatorial primary conducted on May 19.

Addressing journalists in Gusau on Monday shortly after filing the case at the Federal High Court, Shinkafi alleged that the exercise did not follow due process and excluded some aspirants.

“We are contesting the result of the May 19 primary election that declared Sen. Sahabi Ya’u as the winner,” he said.

According to him, the conduct of the exercise was inconsistent with provisions of the Electoral Act and constitutional guidelines governing party primaries.

He added that the decision to approach the court was necessary because he and his supporters were dissatisfied with how the process was handled.

Shinkafi’s lawyer, Bello Galadi, called on the court to carefully examine the evidence presented and ensure justice is served.

Galadi stated that the suit challenges the legitimacy of Sen. Ya’u’s emergence as the APC candidate for Zamfara North, stressing that relevant sections of the Electoral Act clearly outline procedures for the nomination of candidates.
